Perfecting Natural Curls

I get many compliments on my natural curly hair so I thought I would share my own personal secrets to achieving the perfect curls.  My hair is very thick and coarse so this is the method I have come up with for thick coarse hair.

1. Get a good shampoo and conditioner.  I recently discovered Redken Curvaceous Shampoo and Conditioner that I really like.  It is a very conditioning shampoo and conditioner and the shampoo almost feels and looks just like regular conditioner.  It has worked great and doesn’t weigh my hair done.

2. After washing your hair you want to touch your hair with your bare hands as least as possible.  I gently towel dry with a clean soft towel or an old t-shirt as you gently scrunch your curls.  I hang my head over and gently scrunch with the t-shirt as I soak up the access water.  If you like to run a comb through your hair you could do it but, use a big wide detangling comb only. I don’t ever comb my hair…I know sounds weird but, I don’t use a brush or comb on my hair ever.  Usually when I am shampooing my hair my fingers natural pull access hair out.

3. The only time you want to touch your hair with your hands is when you apply product.  I have been using Bed Head TIGI Foxy Curls Extreme Curl Mousse.  [Read more...]

My Favorite Things of 2012

I am linking up to 320 Sycamore Favorite Things party.  I look forward to this every year and contemplate my favorite things many weeks before.  It is so hard for me to decide what my favorite things are (or narrow down the list) and yet I can have a somewhat running list in my head but, then sit down to write this post and totally draw a blank! Let’s see how I do… [Read more...]

Be You Be Beautiful–Dressing Your Truth 2012

I had an amazing time at the Dressing Your Truth conference in Salt Lake City this past weekend.  I have met beautiful friends from across the United States this past year and it was a special reunion getting to see them and connect.
Here are some of the highlights:

I received a pre-release copy of Carol Tuttle’s new book The Child Whisperer and had it signed by her.

This book launches October 23rd and I have already read it! It is a must read for everyone! I am also part of her book launch team and it has been very exciting to be a part of.

I have had some big aha’s about myself as well as ways I can be a better parent, aunt, teacher, ect to the children I come in contact with.  A must read for everyone whether you have children or not, your children are baby’s or in their 50’s or if you just want to learn more about your own unique nature. This book will literally heal family relationships and misunderstandings. If you can understand your own true nature along with the nature’s of those whom you are around it will bring a level of understanding that will bring you peace and comfort. What an exciting adventure it is to be part of sharing the message of this amazing book!

The first night of the conference I was invited on stage to share about living my truth as a type 2 with a secondary type 3 nature. Within each of the 4 types you find some differences and usually that has to do with our secondary nature that makes us each uniquely beautiful.

Talk about nerve racking for me and so surreal standing on stage with the famous Carol Tuttle.  She really does make us type 2’s feel comfortable like you are having a normal conversation…yet 300 people were listening and watching! Of course I enjoyed going back to my seat and letting all the anxiety leave my body!

The Parade of Beauty is always fun to see the 4 different types get on stage and share how uniquely beautiful we all are.  I was proud of us type 2’s for stepping out of our comfort level and strutting our stuff in our own flowing way…
Then of course some of my beautiful type 2 friends that I just love.  I miss them so much already and realizing 2 years until the next conference is way too long to go without seeing them.

There was so much I learned and took away with me.  I just loved being able to connect with women in a way that was so peaceful and loving without any judgment or contention in the room.  Whether type 1, 2, 3 or 4 it is amazing how 300 women can all be together in such peace and harmony with no competition or judging going on.  I love knowing my true nature and so excited to keep progressing living my truth.

My Bag Is Packed

I picked up a few packing tips that I’ve learned after visiting 16 states this year via our family road trips. I am excited that this up coming trip I get to travel by a 4 hour airplane ride instead of a 30 hour drive out west.  Whether car or plane I have used just one carry on piece of luggage and purse. I have developed a system to get the most out of every inch of packing space.

I told you a few weeks ago I was going to the Dressing Your Truth Conference in Salt Lake City and the time has arrived to start packing.

True to my type 2 nature I have planned out my outfits and picked things that can mix and match.  I love that when you know how to Dress Your Truth everything in your closet can mix and match.  Instead of saying “I have nothing to wear” I had quite the opposite reaction…I have so many choices that are all my favorites. This is what I came up with after trying several different combinations to come up with the most comfortable, most versatile and best for traveling as a Dressing Your Truth Type 2.

I have 2 skirts- denim ruffle and gray lace. 2 pairs of skinny jeans, 3 cardigan sweaters- with coordinating tops underneath. 1 lace top and matching necklace, earrings and belts grouped together. I have packed my fitness gear including my athletic shoes and also my gray dress boots. I am wearing a pair of my favorite gray wool flats, comfortable outfit and jacket on the plane.  I have several options of dressing up or dressing down an outfit and yet still be comfortable for the activities. None of the items are bulky except for my shoes.  I got all of that in my suit case.
I have a variety of activities to attend while at the conference and I don’t want to leave anything behind I might need. I have been asked to share how my secondary type 3 nature plays a role in my life plus I need to make sure my outfit reflects my secondary…anyone of you DYT gals guess which item I packed to wear for my 2 minute spotlight?

Once I had everything planned out I then roll up my clothes so I can fit more in my carry on suit case.  I also put my jeans and thicker heavier items in the center and then build around them tucking my shoes on the side.  I can see my boots are going to take up some room.  I refuse to pay money to check a bag though and I have narrowed everything down that I know it will all fit.  A well designed carry on suit case that has nice pockets on the top inside is most helpful. I roll up my under garments or smaller items and tuck them in those top inside pockets and can fit a ton of stuff in my suit case that way. No inch of space goes wasted in my bag.
I also carry a nice size purse when I travel by plane to keep my small toiletries handy for security check.  My make-up, camera and jewelry I pack in my purse.  Just in case the plane is packed and I have to gate check my carry on I know I have the stuff that would be really hard to go without if my luggage were lost. {Update at the last minute my bag had to be checked and I am so glad I followed my intuition on packing my personal items with me}
I love traveling in the fall with cool crisp air and looking forward to some time alone to think, ponder and set some new goals for myself.
FYI…Dressing Your Truth course is just $99 with a $20 gift card to the online store included in your purchase until Oct. 9th!
